Update (04/19/2010 @ 2:10pm) – this morning an email which was intended for faculty was sent to all students in Term 10SPDAY. The email was a simple reminder that evaluations had gone out. At 2:00 another email was sent to students apologizing for the error but also reinforcing the importance of completing evals, due dates, stressing anonymity, and directing them to the resources on this blog.
Update (04/19/2010 @ 10:00am) – Course evaluations for Term 10SPDAY were released to students at 4:00am this morning. Students have until May 2nd to complete the evaluations.

Update (03/10/2010) – Course evaluations for terms 10TW2 and 10EW4 released to students.
Update (03/02/2010 @ 9:15pm) – Results are in for the Term 10EW3 course evaluations. The Online response rate increased from 37% in Term 09EW2 to 48% in 10EW3. The CE response rate increased from 42% to 49%. These response rates show steady improvement and may have even been higher if we had not experienced the extensive power outages during the last weekend of the term. Results are to be released to faculty on 03/03/2010. Click here to see a summary of COCE response rates.
Update (02/22/2010 @ 5:08pm) – A comparison of paper and electronic evaluation results has been posted. Click here to read.
Update (02/17/2010 @ 2:55pm) - Summative evaluations have been released to all students taking 8 week courses in Term 10EW3 and 16 week courses in Term 09EW2. Students will have until end of day Sunday, February 28th to complete the evaluations. They received an invitation email today and will receive a few reminders during the evaluation period if they do not complete them. Faculty were made aware of the evaluation release by email on 2/15/2010.
Update (01/25/2010 @ 4:05pm) – Formative evaluation results for COCE/Online terms 10EW3 and 10TW2 have been released to faculty. Students had from January 13th to 24th to complete these evaluations. The response rate for the 10EW3 (UG Term 3) formative evaluation was 36% which is down from 41% in Term 2. The response rate for 10TW2 (Grad Term 2) was 45%, down 3% from Term 1. Formative evaluation results are historically lower than summative results because they are at the beginning of the term and it appears that students still do not understand the importance and value of the information they provide.
Update (12/18/09@ 1:54pm) – Faculty teaching in terms 09FADAY, 09SW1, and 09EW2 (ESL) were inadvertently given access to their evaluation results before the grade submission deadline. A small number of faculty were able to view their reports. This was done accidentally when trying to give access to Deans. Faculty access to evaluation results for these terms has been disabled until the afternoon of December 22nd, after the grade submission deadline.
Update (12/17/09 @ 11:25am) – Course evaluations for the fall terms (09FADAY, 09EW2, 09EW1-16wk, 09SW1) are closed or will be closing in the next day or so. Once closed, students will no longer be able to submit evaluations. Overall, our first large scale deployment of CoursEval went well. While the response rates weren’t spectacular, they weren’t bad for our first run. CoursEval was quite reliable and the support problems that we received were usually due to students unable to login. This was usually due to them not reading the invitation email fully to see their password. Now that the evaluations are closing and faculty are submitting grades, the results will be released. Faculty in Term 09TW1 received an email today allowing them to access results. Faculty in Terms 09FADAY, 09SW1, 09EW2, and 09EW1-16wk will receive an email on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 22nd with details on accessing results.
Update (12/11/09 @ 11:25am) – CoursEval was off-line for approximately 10 minutes this morning from 11:10 to 11:20. The problem was identified immediately and corrected. No data was lost.
Update (12/9/09 @ 10:50am) – Course evaluations for COCE courses (09EW2 and 09EW1-16week have been deployed to students.
Update (12/3/09 @ 3:50pm) – The Blackboard module has been fixed so students will see the correct courses listed in the “My CoursEvals” section. This problem, while a bit of a nuisance did not prevent students from accessing their correct courses for evaluation.
Update (12/1/09 @ 1:30pm) – The course evaluations described in the email sent to faculty last week have been deployed to students and we are getting a good response. Depending on the evaluation, response rates 24 hours after deployment on Monday, November 30th range between 5 and 23%. Overall this is not bad for the first day. I will be posting daily (or almost daily) updates on response rates on Instructional Support’s blog starting this afternoon. You can click here to see response rates by day. The data at this link will update as I add more data.
Today we have encountered one technical problem with the Blackboard module. The Bb module called “My CoursEvals” is not displaying the correct courses to students. Instead of seeing their own courses, all students are seeing Financial Reporting 1. I am working with CoursEval to correct this issue. They have seen this problem once before and they are working on it. In the meantime I have removed the “My CoursEvals” module from Bb to avoid confusion. This problem does not affect the courses that they actually are to evaluate. The course listings in the emails students receive and those listed when they log into CoursEval are correct. If you receive inquiries from your students that they are having this problem, please tell them to check their email for Monday’s message and log into CoursEval. They will see the correct courses.
Update (11/29/2009) - I would like to take this opportunity to update you on the status of course evaluations for the various terms that end in December and update you on the implementation of CoursEval.
As many of you know, SNHU switched from paper evaluations to online delivery of evaluations using CoursEval for all classes as of September 2009. The transition has been made for all classes with the exception of some of our off-site programs (ie. Vermont). I am working with these programs to make the transition in early 2010. Overall, the switch from paper is going smoothly. CoursEval appears to be a good tool for evaluation in our environment due to it’s strict anonymity controls, it’s ability to manage our various evaluation instruments, it’s scheduling capability, Blackboard module, and robust reporting. I have only encountered minor challenges related to our scheduling and reporting idiosyncrasies (ie. courses that end on a date other than the date listed in Datatel, undergraduate courses that run in a graduate term, etc.) These challenges have been easily overcome once identified. I would appreciate any feedback from faculty and administrators that use CoursEval. I would also be happy to provide a demonstration of CoursEval to any individuals/departments upon request.
With a variety of terms coming to an end in December, I have scheduled the necessary evaluations to be deployed (see bullet lists below). Since we are no longer using paper, faculty will not need to use class time for evaluations. Evals will be delivered to students by email and Blackboard. Each student will receive an email invitation at their SNHU email address similar to these two samples (UG/Grad sample and COCE sample) on the start date listed below. If they do not complete their evaluations, they will also receive up to 3 reminder messages of similar format. Each message includes their login information since the password for CoursEval is not their single sign on password. In addition to the emails, students will see a module on their Blackboard Welcome screens called “My CoursEvals” which will show a list of courses to evaluate during the period listed below. Even though faculty do not need to use class time, I would encourage you to mention this to your students and also put an announcement in Blackboard encouraging completion. Also, let them know that there are strict anonymity controls in place. You can click here to review the anonymity FAQs. At the end of the term and after the grade submission deadline, faculty will receive an email inviting them to view evaluation results online.
Please let me know if you have any questions. This information as well as updates, some overview data, and user guides/training material will be posted on Instructional Support’s blog in the coming week. All evaluations that are scheduled to automatically go out in the coming weeks:
Manchester Undergraduate Day and Graduate courses – evaluations available starting on 11/30 and ending on 12/13 at end of day.
This includes:
* Undergraduate Day (09FADAY)
* ESL courses (09EW2)
* Manchester Graduate (09TW1)
* SCED (09SW1)
* Vermont courses are not included at this time
College of Online and Continuing Education (COCE) - evaluation start/end times are:
* Online Graduate (09TW1) – 11/30 to 12/12
* CE Graduate and Advantage undergrad (09TW1) – 11/30 to 12/12
* Culinary (09FADAY) – 11/30 to 12/13
* Undergraduate CE and Online (09EW2 and 09EW1-16 week courses) – 12/7 to 12/20
While I appreciate Aaron’s effort to assist I remain frustrated by inability to access the course evaluations.
In view of the cited low response rate I would deem this effort a failure.

Marc:
I’m glad you were able to login after our email exchange. The reason that you did not receive the email message containing your login credentials is that you are blocking snhu.edu in Barracuda. You are still able to receive email that is sent from others within the SNHU community as the email never leaves the main server. However, the CoursEval emails come from a server off-site and are scanned by Barracuda. At some point you blocked snhu.edu and will need to unblock it to receive future messages.
To do this log into Barracuda (https://barracuda.snhu.edu). When logged in, click the Preferences tab and scroll to the bottom and review the Blocked Email Addresses and Domains (Blacklist). snhu.edu is likely there. Click the trashcan to remove it.
As for your response rates I anticipate these increasing as faculty and students become familiar with the system and both the administration and faculty inform students about the importance and value of their responses.

I have no idea how to actually access this information. Is there a simple way to do this other than going around and around?
@g.smuda
Marie:
You should have received an email from me with your username and password. If you are having trouble accessing your evals online, let me know and we can schedule a time to review it. Once you get in the first time it will be very easy.

Hi –
I love the new online evaluations! Is there a way we can save or export these as a PDF for our files?
Thanks!
- Tracy
@Tracy Dow
Tracy:
When you are looking at your report list you have the option of printing the evaluations. You can also save them out of CoursEval in HTML format or as a PDF.
